Erica is originally from Wales but moved to London 45 years ago. 'I was just a slip of a girl in those days, young and silly so I came to the city'. She was sitting on a bench in the middle of a pedestrianised shopping precinct. 'I live up there’ she motioned up to one of the flats that surrounded the precinct. ‘I came down for a fag because a brown ambulance turned up for next door so I just had to get out’. I asked her what a brown ambulance was and she told me it was a private ambulance that takes away a body after someone has died. I asked if she was close friends with her neighbour. She said ‘not at all, but you don’t want to be seeing brown ambulances at my time of life - they should come at night when I’m asleep’. She lit another cigarette. ‘nice talking to you’ she said, ‘It’s taken my mind off things’ and we parted company.
