Indrani

Indrani is 76 and walks along the Thames Path every day. She has her route - she walks downstream to a specific bench and then back upstream again. It's a busy part of the river with lots of walkers and cyclists, so it feels safe for a woman on her own.
Indrani got married at 17. At the time, she was studying to be a doctor back in India. Her new husband became a medical registrar in Liverpool, so Indrani gave up her studies to move to the UK to be with him. They thought they'd just be staying for a couple of years but never went back.
It was an arranged marriage. Indrani's parents chose well because the couple have been together for 60 years.
When her husband retired from the NHS, they sold the family home in the north of England and moved to London to be close to their grown-up kids.
Indrani told me she has had a good life. She wishes that she had managed to finish her training to become a doctor but is pleased that her kids are doing well in their careers.
As she said this, we reached the bench where Indrani always turns to head back home, so we said goodbye.
