Jackie

Jackie Moran has lived most of her life in Tooting but her family is originally from Ireland. I took this shot outside of Sainsburys where she’d just been to get some lamb chops and potatoes for her tea.

She was having a quick cigarette whilst waiting for the bus home. She told me that she has smoked most of her life and currently gets through about 30 a day

She also said that she’d recently had the Covid vaccine. She’s only 55 years old but got the jab early because she is considered vulnerable as she has COPD and breast cancer. A few months ago, she was supposed to have an operation for the cancer but on the day it was due, she got frightened and stayed at home in bed.

Jackie loves knitting and knitted the scarf that she’s wearing in the shot, She knits most days and has kept a diary every day for the last 20 years.

She has a daughter who is in her 30’s. Jackie is no longer with the father, he went back to Ireland years ago. She told me that she’s a single girl now and isn’t that bothered - she told me that a hot water bottle is better than any man.

It was great talking to Jackie. She was very chatty and loved talking about the music she enjoyed when she was young, Madness, The Specials and the Boomtown Rats.

Jackie promised that she’d go and have that operation. She said that next time it’s due, she will stay at her dads the night before as he will make sure that she goes. I took a few shots, she lit another ciggy and we parted company.
