Mrs Zaman is 80 years old. She’s originally from Pakistan and has lived in Tooting for the past 40 years. She was out shopping in the High Street when I took this shot. She told me that Ramadam is coming so she was stocking up. I told her that when I was a kid, I loved Ramadam because the Pakistani family that lived next door would always bring us big plates of Biriani which I thought tasted amazing.  Mrs Zaman laughed and said that she does the same with her neighbours, she told me that Ramadam is a time for people to come together, regardless of background or religion - she said ‘every one should share’ and she linked her hands together to emphasise the point.

Mrs Zaman’s has four grown up daughters. Sadly, her husband had a stroke 5 years ago and has been bedridden ever since. She says a carer comes in once a week and her daughters are a big help. Mrs Zaman also told me that she had Covid last year. She said that she felt very unwell for a couple of months but is back to normal now. Her parting words to me were,  ‘If you think you are allright, then you will be allright’.
